Under sunshine that finally returned, Saturday at the Ford Steveny Superbiker 2026 delivered its share of spectacle and the first victories of the weekend. The most eagerly awaited guest of this Saturday in Mettet was indeed the sun, offering riders and spectators ideal conditions for the first races of this 39th edition of the Ford Steveny Superbiker. With a now-complete entry list, every category took to the track for their opening heats, in an atmosphere as warm as ever. Spectacle, show and battles at every level: this first day of racing kept all its promises.
S1GP: Schmidt takes the double and clinches the world title
Marc-Reiner Schmidt was the man of the day in the S1GP class. Pole-sitter of the weekend after a clean sweep on Friday, the German won the first race with almost four seconds in hand over Steve Bonnal, before repeating the feat in the Fast Race. A double that sees him crowned S1GP 2026 world champion in Mettet — a coronation in front of the Belgian crowd!
In race 1, Elia Sammartin completed the podium ahead of Julen Avila Cortes and Raphaël Payet. In the day’s second race, Bonnal was still right behind Schmidt, but this time Julen Avila Cortes took third, ahead of Melvin Viola and Elia Sammartin.
Superquad: Cluydts unstoppable
In the quad class, there was no suspense in the first race: Maxime Cluydts dominated from start to finish, in complete control, ahead of Justin Ried and Jeremy Mikels. A commanding win that makes the quad a serious contender for the rest of the weekend.
European Championship: Terraneo turns it around
In the European Championship, Nathan Terraneo won the first race on his TM. The Swiss rider of the SwissMoto team took victory with a 3.187-second margin over Leonardo Lapadula, while Noah Champagne, who started from pole, completed the podium. Yevsevii Kovalov finished fourth, ahead of Mark Luca Iovita and Joshua Chirot. Riccardo Andreotti, Nathan Baraniak, Tao Abraham and Paul Niewoehner rounded out the top 10.
Supermoto Junior: Bereczki prevails
Among the Juniors, David Zsolt Bereczki dominated the first race. The Hungarian rider of the Husqvarna team won by just 0.733 seconds over Edward Darnton, after a close fight at the front. Jean Rondeaux took third place.
